Recycling News: Ireland has launched its Deposit Return System
Currently, approximately 60% of single-use beverage packaging is being collected in Ireland for recycling purposes. The Deposit Return Scheme in Ireland has the potential to reduce littering and increase Ireland’s recycling rates by 30%. These numbers will result in reduced landfill waste and significantly support the protection of the environment. The Irish DRS administrator is the company Re-turn, the entire scheme is powered by a software solution from Sensoneo.
Hungarian Deposit Return System powered by Sensoneo SW is LIVE!
Budapest – Hungary joins 1st of January 2024 the 14 European countries to introduce the Deposit Return System (DRS) for single-use beverage packaging aiming to recycle 90 percent of plastic and glass bottles and metal beverage cans within three years. Consumers will pay the deposit of HUF 50 (€0.13) that applies to PET & glass bottles, and aluminum cans from 1 deciliter to 3 liters. The value of the returned bottles can be either redeemed or exchanged for cash at the store, returned to the customer's bank account by using the app, or donated to charity by selecting the option shown on the vending machine display. Sensoneo implemented the IT solution that works as a backbone of the entire DRS system in Hungary.
Romania launches the world’s largest centralized Deposit Return System
Romania is thus on the path to joining other 13 EU countries that have launched deposit return schemes (DRS) with the aim of increasing collection and recycling rates of single-use beverage containers. The Romanian DRS system uses a software solution from Sensoneo. The software works as a backbone of the entire system as it integrates all stakeholders and gathers data from all sources within the process chain. The Deposit Return Schemes increase the purity of material collected, leading to materials’ circularity and reduction of CO2 emissions. The Romanian scheme will cover plastic, glass, and metal beverage containers ranging from 0.1 to 3 Litres. The deposit per bottle will be 0,5 Romanian lei (approximately €0.1).

Companies from 16 European countries participated, with companies from seven countries and six different industries winning in the main Technology Fast 50 category. Sensoneo took the prestigious 25th place in the main category with the growth rate of 988%.
Sensoneo, a Slovakia-based company, secures €6.2M funding and aims for the largest smart waste installation in Europe
Green tech scale-up Sensoneo, headquartered in Slovakia, revealed the successful completion of a Series A funding round. Led by Taiwania Capital, the funding round secured an impressive €6.2M investment for the company. The funding round also saw participation from current investors Crowdberry, EIC Fund, and Venture to Future Fund.

Launch of deposit return system in Malta in cooperation with Sensoneo highlighted in the Waste Management World
Waste Management World published the news on Malta's launch of deposit return scheme, where Sensoneo is providing DRS IT system. Malta launches DRS as the first Mediterranean country with the aim of increasing recycling rates from 20 to 90 %. Sensoneo is currently the first and only DRS integrator operating in two countries.

Asekol, a non-profit company that organizes a nationwide take-back system for electrical and electronic equipment in the Czech Republic, has undergone a full digitalization process to cope with the high complexity of managing operations and make its everyday operations efficient and transparent. At an international resource and waste management exhibition RWM in Birmingham, a presentation on the successful implementation of the Slovak Deposit Return System (DRS) took place in the presence of Ján Budaj, the Minister of Environment of the Slovak Republic. Recycling News: Slovakia has launched its Deposit Return System
The history of the Slovak deposit return scheme dates back to 2003 when the first public discussion about its implementation started. Since 2019 these efforts became more tangible – the country defined a strategy with a focus on a deposit return scheme for PET bottles and metal and aluminum cans. Like in Lithuania and Estonia, DRS in Slovakia was designed to run along with the ongoing separate collection of plastics – a system that was established years ago.

Enterprise IoT insights about Saudi telco STC deploying smart waste management technology
Saudi telco STC has announced a partnership with Sensoneo with the aim of providing customers in Saudi Arabia with smart waste management technology. The smart waste management technology uses smart ultrasonic sensors embedded with STC NB-IoT SIMs to monitor waste levels and pick up the status and real-time temperature of bins.
