Prague will monitor waste with Sensoneo sensors

Operator ICT, Prague’s municipal enterprise, which primarily secures agendas and manages Smart City projects, and also manages consultancy in ICT and implementation of ICT projects for municipal districts, has completed the selection process for a smart waste management partner. The city of Prague has decided to partner with Sensoneo – a global provider of smart, enterprise-grade waste management solutions.

„The main goal of this project is to create an effective tool for monitoring the fill-level and condition of underground bins with separated waste. This tool should provide the city with new information which will be used for the optimization of waste collection routes, creation of predictive models for the planning of collection routes and the placement of new waste containers, “commented on Smart waste collection project Michal Fiser, CEO of municipal enterprise Operator ICT, and continues:

Along with monitoring fill levels in containers, we would also like to try the technology for the detection of ball-of-insert chambers and automatic fire alarms. The data from the sensors that will monitor 420 underground bins with separated waste will be immediately integrated with Prague’s official data platform, Golemio, and made ready for use. The entire project is in line with the Smart Prague 2030 plan; which also includes „the zero waste plan“, which is based on responsible, intelligent waste management. In addition, thanks to the knowledge we will receive from this pilot project, the city will also be able to decide whether or not the monitoring should be extended to the entire city.

The implementation of the solution began during the last week of November and will be completed in several stages within the next two months. The project itself is the result of cooperation with Slovanet – an experienced telco company and IoT operator with over 20 years of experience. Slovanet was the very first company that was certified for the Sensoneo solution and has already successfully implemented smart waste projects in twenty cities and towns.

The implementation of our smart waste solution in Prague to monitor 420 underground bins and optimize waste collection is a confirmation of our excellent expertise and know-how. We are very happy to see that the demand for efficient waste management technologies is also increasing in our central-European region and after many customers, we serve in 25 countries, we have noticed an increase of in local customers.

In addition to this project, Sensoneo has been installed in approximately ten cities and towns in the Czech Republic.
Sensoneo has monitored glass, plastic and paper waste in underground bins in Prague II for over a year; and the project was recently extended for another year. Sensoneo cooperates in the Czech republic with several partners, such as Vodafone, T-Mobile, CRA, Simple Cell, Incinity and Elkoplast.

About Sensoneo

Sensoneo brings a smart solution to the global waste management market that changes the way waste is managed. The solution tackles smart cities, the internet of things, data management and a responsible approach to the environment, which becomes more and more important for broad audiences. Sensoneo designs, develops & manufactures several variants of inhouse-produced fill-level smart sensors that are able to monitor any type of waste in any type of bin. Fill-level information is transferred via all currently available IoT networks (or GRPS/GSM) to Sensoneo software, where it is used to provide customers with data-driven decision making and the optimization of waste collection routes, frequencies and vehicle load. The Citizen app is a free mobile application that informs citizens of the nearest available empty bin, type of waste, actual fill-level, and directions.

The Sensoneo solution has now been implemented in 25 countries on 5 continents, including the USA. Sensoneo has seen great success in Europe and the Middle East, where it cooperates with several partners including Huawei’s headquarters in Dubai. Sensoneo is preparing implementation in other localities in the US and is working on different smart waste projects for cities like Montreal and Sofia, and even one of the world’s top 5 universities in the United Kingdom.
